Dr. John Y. Walz, president of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), is an award-winning chemical engineer with years of experience in industry and academic leadership. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Tulane University. After six years as a process support engineer for Shell Oil Company, Walz left to pursue a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He has taught at Tulane and Yale University, and served as chairman of Yale’s Chemical and Environmental Engineering. He subsequently served as head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech and dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Walz has been president of MSOE since 2016. He has received honors and awards from the universities where he has taught as well as from the National Science Foundation, who awarded him a Research Initiation Award and a Faculty Early Career Development Award.
