Mr. Spackey is Chief Marketing Officer of MIT’s AFFOA Institute. At AFFOA, he has been instrumental in securing 114+ companies and academic institutions across the nation to become members of the Institute. These organizations are part of AFFOA’s ecosystem that is working to enable textiles and apparel to deliver high value-added services through fibers and fabrics that are functional devices - bringing semiconductor technology into fiber materials not as an add-on, but rather as an integral part of the fiber and fabric.

Mr. Spackey also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Bluewater Defense, Inc., the largest supplier of Army Combat Trousers for the Department of Defense, where he employs over 585 people and 1,000 indirectly through subcontracts. With more than 30 years of experience leading finance, development and operations for successful start-ups, Mr. Spackey has held senior leadership roles in a number of successful wireless telecommunication companies, including; AT&T Wireless, SunComm/TeleCorp, ClearComm and General Cellular, working closely with investors, network operators, network infrastructure and handset providers. In 1996, he successfully negotiated to become a wireless carrier for MCIOne, the first industry attempt to consolidate local, long-distance, cable and wireless service under one bill. After successfully launching SunComm Puerto Rico in 1999, he was seconded to AT&T Wireless International to lead business development and regulatory affairs in the region. In this role, he worked closely with senior government ministers and business leaders, successfully acquiring eight telecom licenses and associated frequency, as well as setting up multiple successful partnerships across each market covered.

Mr. Spackey is a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of the Republican Governors Association Executive Roundtable, where he works closely with senior government, military and industry leaders. Mr. Spackey holds a BS in Finance and Marketing from the University of California Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
